The $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) features a final field of nine sprinters and runs as Rosehill Race 7 at 3:05pm (AEST) on the nine-race card this weekend.

Of the runners in the mix the best fancied for the win in the latest Civic Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Dylan Thomas five-year-old Oxford Poet paying $3.30.

Drawn in barrier six with Brenton Avdulla replacing Jay Ford in the saddle, the smart gelding comes off two seconds over 1100m at Randwick including behind Danish Twist on June 11 in the Listed June Stakes (1100m).

He returns to Rosehill for the first time since February last year and has a strong record at the track of two wins and a third from four runs.

Oxford Poet should enjoy not only the return to Rosehill but also the step up in distance (8-2-3-2) as well as the drop back from 56kg last time out to the 54kg minimum on Saturday.

Occupying the second line of Civic Stakes betting at $4.50 are early market mover Snippets Land and the Chris Waller-trained Marenostro.

Blake Shinn rides the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Snippetson five-year-old Snippets Land once again having guided the gelding to victory two back on May 21 at Doomben in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m).

Last start Snippets Land ran fifth, defeated under three lengths, with Kerrin McEvoy aboard on Stradbroke Day in Brisbane’s Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m).

He is ticking a number of boxes heading into the Civic Stakes, but is yet to finish in the money from five previous runs at Rosehill and also goes up from 55kg last start to 58kg on the weekend.

Marenostro meanwhile jumps from gate eight with Tye Angland riding on 55.5kg, a drop back from the hefty 60kg Waller’s Duelled five-year-old had on his back when sixth over the mile at Randwick last Saturday.

The horse is on the quick back-up and rises in class to stakes’ company, but will relish the drop in weights and distance having earlier won back-to-back 1400m wins at the track this campaign.

Also at single-figures are the returning Vergara ($7.50) who heads to the breeding barn after this first run for trainer Gerald Ryan and the Peter Robl-trained 59kg top weight Ninth Legion ($8).

Five-year-old Snippetson mare Vergara has her first and only run for Ryan on Saturday in her maiden start since a sixth to Azkadellia in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) back in April.

She chases a final Black-Type win before heading to stud and her first success since the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill in March.

Ninth Legion was a dual acceptor for Saturday, but the last start Eye Liner Stakes winner in Ipswich has been confirmed for the Sydney start over a shot at Queensland’s Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast.
