Due to run as Randwick Race 6 at 3:05pm (AEST), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) features a final field of 12 hopefuls led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by the market mover Music Magnate ($4.80).

It is an open affair in Hall Mark Stakes betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with five hopefuls under $10 for the win.

Despite a wide barrier 11 draw, the early money is all on the Bjorn Baker-trained Written Tycoon four-year-old Music Magnate who has been backed right in from $7.60.

Brenton Avdulla reunites with the returning gelding who won back-to-back Sydney races during the spring.

He hasn’t raced since October last year, but comes off two trial wins including an impressive one and three-quarter length win over 742m at Randwick on April 8.

The next best in the Hall Mark Stakes odds are Gai Waterhouse’s Group 1 winning mare Speak Fondly ($5.50) out to improve on a ninth to stablemate English in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) from March 5 and the Joe Pride-trained Target In Sight ($5.50) coming off a second to the early Stradbroke Handicap 2016 favourite Malaguerra.

The others at single-figures are the rails-drawn Group 1 placed five-year-old Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($7.50) dropping back in class off five straight Group 1 wins dating back to last October and the 58.5kg top weight Charlie Boy ($9) who won the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) last time out in late February.

So will the market mover salute for the punters or is there an upset Hall Mark Stakes result on the cards from the likes of the consistent John O’Shea-trained four-year-old Federal ($11), Clarry Conners’ lightly-raced six-year-old My Favourite ($13) or the Gerald Ryan-trained All American four-year-old Bachman ($14)?

1st

#6 Speak Fondly ($5.50)

Tipping Waterhouse’s Flight Stakes winner from last October to return to winning form second-up here. She saluted over the mile during a stellar campaign during the spring that also included the Group 2 Silver Shadow – Furious Stakes double at Randwick and the second to Exosphere in the Golden Rose. Her returning run saw her beat home just one runner in the Challenge Stakes, but she was still only beaten four lengths and will relish the extra metres on Saturday. She has since blitzed a Randwick 1050m trial by over five lengths and is undefeated second-up (2-2-0-0), plus has a stellar Randwick record (5-3-0-1).

2nd

#10 Federal ($11)

Plenty of livewire hopes to fill the placings, but the consistency of this Godolphin-raced improver is hard to look past. He has four wins, three seconds and a third from 10 runs to date including two wins from as many starts at Randwick. His last run at the track was in April last year for the South Pacific Classic win. He spent a year sidelined, but returned this March to win first-up over 1400m at Rosehill and will be better for the run with bigger things to come.

3rd

#1 Charlie Boy ($9)

This Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Myboycharlie gelding comes off a Group 3 win at the track from February and has been freshened-up since. He flies fresh and trialled well at the track when third to Speak Fondly at the start of the month. He carries the 58.5kg top weight, but is drawn a treat in gate four with Blake Shinn continuing his association.
